Shakespeare: The Merry Wives of Windsor Act 2
August 24, 2010 by Lori Mitchell
Mrs. Page and Mrs. Ford get their love letters from Falstaff and they are appalled. Clearly they were not flattered! They compared notes and decided to get revenge on the poor sucker! So they plan to lead him on to give him false hope. The poor sap.
The ladies compare letters and discover that aside from their names the letters are identical. Clearly the man isn’t the least bit creative and couldn’t even manage to personalize them.
They decide to lead him on and let them court them both. They figure that in order to do a good job of courting them he’ll have to lay out some money to make it seem real before he cons them, so they decide to lead him on until he sells all his horses, then drop him like the scum bucket he is.
Mrs. Ford says that her hubby is a jealous insecure fool and Mrs. Page says her hubby is a cold fish and doesn’t care enough to be jealous. On cue the husbands come in with Pistol and Nym (do these names make anybody else think of Disney characters?) Pistol tells Mr. Ford that Falstaff is after his wife but Mr. Ford finds it hard to believe that anybody would want the old bat.
When Pistol leaves Nym tell Mr. Page that Falstaff is also after his wife. After Nym leaves Page says he t doesn’t believe him that he’s just a “rogue”. Clearly Page doesn’t think anybody could possibly be interested in his wife because she’s fat and her feet smell.
Mrs. Ford and Mrs. Page send messages back to Falstaff through Quickly.
After the women leave Ford and Page start talking about the accusations and Page says no freaking way does he believe it and that Pistol and Nym are just butt hurt because they got fired. Ford on the other hand is a little uneasy and starting to wonder if maybe he should be tweaking a little. He just doesn’t trust Falstaff with his wife at all.
Then Host and Shallow come in. They tell Page that Evans and Caius are going to duel over his daughter, but when he goes outside they tell him that there really isn’t a duel but they were just trying to get him alone. Then Host whispers in Ford’s ear and tells him that he’ll introduce he’ll introduce Ford to Falstaff, but that they’ll pretend his name is Brook.
Then Ford confronts his wife and says that she and Falstaff were alone at Page’s house the other night and he doesn’t know what kind of hanky panky might have gone on that night. Then he says he’s going to feel Falstaff out.
Scene 2- Pistol asks Falstaff to borrow some money, but Falstaff no way because he’s tired of always bailing him out and hiding him from his creditors and besides he’s still mad that Pistol wouldn’t deliver his letter for him.
Ms. Quickly comes in and tells Falstaff that Mrs. Ford is all atwitter by his letter and that her hubby will be away from ten to eleven. She invites him to come “visit” her. She also tells him that Mrs. Page is all flattered by his letter as well, but that her husband has no plans to go away, but maybe he will sometime soon.
Mistress Quickly then makes plans for Falstaff’s page, Robin to be the go-between him and Mrs. Page. Falstaff is all proud of himself and is pretty sure he’s going to get these women to support his worthless butt.
Bardolph comes in and tells Falstaff that some guy named Brook wants to see him. Ford comes in pretending to be Brook and asks Falstaff to help him. Then he tells Falstaff that he’s in love with Mrs. Ford and has been hitting on her, but she’s not been too receptive. Then Brook/Ford kisses Falstaff’s butt telling him how he’s so accomplished and all that and a bag of chips too, and asks him to seduce Mrs. Ford, since he’s such an awesome man he can do it. Ford offers him money to do it.
Clearly this whole scenario makes no sense to Falstaff so he asks what the heck he hopes to gain from Falstaff seducing Mrs. Ford. So Brook/Ford cialis doses explains that Mrs. Ford prides herself on being virtuous and if she has an affair with Falstaff then she can’t pretend to be virtuous anymore and then she won’t have an excuse to refuse his advances. It’s kind of a warped man way of looking at things.
Being a man, this makes sense to Falstaff, that and he’d do anything for money, he agrees to do. He says that he already has plans with Mrs. Ford from ten to eleven. Then he starts making fun of Ford as being a sap whose wife cheats on him.
When Falstaff leaves Ford throws a jealous fit and decides he has proof his wife is cheating. He vows Cheap Alli Online to stop it and get revenge on Falstaff.
